Zanders Subaru WRX

This car came from humble places as a silver, two-tone project that for all intents and purposes, got the job done, and reminded us of some of our first builds. That is, until it ended up in Zanders hands… and the time and effort that went into it transformed it to something special. It should be known that this car is used as a daily driver and sees long road use every day, paring comfort, performance and style into one pretty awesome package with some interesting things to take note of!

That being said, let’s dive in.

Q: How'd you actually end up with this car? Did you buy it from a friend? Stanger? Got a funny story how it ended up in your driveway?

A: This car was a Facebook market place find listed for 7k and I only had $5,750. I was able to talk the seller down to 6k but I didn’t have that extra 250 so my friend lent me the rest. Our drive back was definitely a struggle because I never have driven manual previously so it definitely was a little hesitant getting to my driveway.

Editors note: Impressive, I remember a similar, dicey situation driving my car for the first time after converting it to manual at my friends place!

Q: What’d it look like when you first got it? Was it modified?

A: When I got the car the only thing that was done to it was an aluminum radiator and some ugly bumper paint.

Editors note: In current times that’s nearly a goldmine! Most of these are likely heavily modified, or in need of so much TLC that it’s difficult to justify taking on the project, thank you for doing this car up properly!

Q: How's the engine? Stock? Lightly built? Full race? GTR Killer?

A: The engine is a Jdm imported Ej 257 with a Blauch 18g turbo it’s nothing full race car but when the turbo spools it pulls pretty well

Q: What drove you to go widebody?

A: The widebody was always something I wanted to do. I like the aggressive style of old school rally and time attack so I went for a little bit of both with the Angry Acorn widebody. The kit itself is made by Angry Acorn.

Q: Got a story about the paint and how you ended up with the blue flake in the carbon?

A: The paint was a collaborative effort with my painter who helped me come up with the custom color. The base is just a metallic purple that we added some gloss black to tone it back just a touch. I didn’t want it looking pink in bright light. There’s black, blue, silver, and purple flakes added to the paint and the clear coat for all the body panels including the carbon fiber bits. I got the trunk from another person on marketplace and it needed to be re-clear coated and I just asked him to clear it for me and i remember texting him after I dropped my car off and being like “what if you did the same clear coat for the car with the flake in it” and he said that was already what he had planned!

Q: Favorite mod on this car?

My favorite mod is probably my BRIDE Cuga seats! They’re incredibly comfortable and love they way they hold me in for being a reclining bucket seat.

Q: Anything you wish you did differently?

Not necessarily what I’d like to do differently but there’s a good list of imperfections that I need to go back and fix because it had been daily driven for 3+ years and I still street drive it today so it’s just got normal wear and tear.

Needless to say this build leaves quite an impression on those that see it, especially in person! This is a street car with presence, with attitude, with story. It’s exactly what some drivers dream of being able to take to and from work each day. While I’ve seen this car before, it never get’s old, and leaves me grinning each time I see it. Weather it be the widebody, or the giant chassis-mount wing. Everything about this car exclaims something a little extra. I’d like to extend a massive thank you to Zander for providing me with such a fun example to shoot! Well done.
